Save the butterflies

The sight of a butterfly always lifts the spirits. Apparently, many of our native species are under threat here in the UK. This is my homage to the stunning Common Blue. Pop over to the gallery to have a close look.

Not all redheads are human

Like many I have been reading Michelle's redhead entries. Her last one really struck a chord with me. This is my non-human redhead pal Angel.

We rescued Angel almost 7 years ago. Mostly a Staffie, she came with all of the breed's problems, and also with an unlimted amount of love to give. This portrait was painted in 2009, and was one of my first pictures using Acrylics.

Thanks for making me remember it Michelle, and good luck with your forthcoming exhibition.

Life Drawing

It is has been a while since I did any life drawing. It was such a joy on Sunday to spend 3 hours drawing with a live model again. Suzie was a fantastic model, and as it was just for fun, there was a chance to try out my new acrylic pens.

This was one of the paintings. It measures approx 16" by 12" and was completed in around 30 minutes.

Note to myself. Do not leave it so long until the next time.

Bosham ( that's pronounced Bosam)

The improving weather has me looking forward to being out and about painting in the beautiful Sussex countryside. The village of Bosham is one of the prettiest in the county, and is  something of a magnet for local artists. It stands on the edge of Chichester harbour and has a beautiful church that was featured in the Bayeux tapestry. However, perhaps its greatest claim to fame is that the road and car park regularly flood at high tide.

Spring cleaning the Gallery

After Victoria's much needed "heads up", this afternoon has been spent tidying up the gallery. Several new works have been added, with particular emphasis on Spring, and some old friends have been retired.

Please pop over and take a look. http://www.studioexhibits.com/gallery/mark-juby

Let me know what you think.

Woodrough goes home

Last weekend "Woodrough" was handed over to its new owners. They seemed very pleased with it, and the painting now hangs in the magnificent house it depicts.

Another nice warm feeling.

Sold "Painting boats at Shoreham"

Some more good news. It was great that the purchaser, and his twin 9 year old sons, really liked the picture and wanted to buy it for his wife's (the mother's) birthday.

Sad to see it go, but a nice warm feeling at the same time.

The Wave

After much consideration, I have to decided to list this painting for sale. It is has attracted interest and received some very positive feedback locally. Oil is not a mdeium I use frequently, but applied with a palette knife, as done here, it produces a dramatic, almost sculptural effect.

Hopefully someone will like it enough to want it in their home.

"Worthing Street, Rainy Evening" another painting sold

Some more good news this week, with the sale of "Worthing Street, Rainy Evening". Once more there is a feeling of pleasure, mingled with some sadness, as this picture had also been around for a while.

For those interested, the title and the composition of the picture owe much to a painting by Caillebotte entitled "Jour de pluis a Paris" from 1877. The setting for my painting is from my local town and the figures come from various references. If you look carefully there is an observation on the way different generations deal with inclement weather!
